Shalom House

Shalom House for web
Shalom House gives hope to homeless women through innovative programs and supportive services designed to stabilize and rebuild lives.
The word "shalom" means peace, completeness, and safety.
By providing a continuum of care, Shalom House will end chronic homelessness for mentally ill/chemically dependent women in St. Louis. Additionally, Shalom House will help educate the community on these issues and serve as an advocate on behalf of our clients.
Why is Shalom House Vital to the St. Louis Community?
In the United States, there are currently 14 metropolitan areas with populations between two and three million people.  Between 2005 and 2010, twelve increased in size!  St. Louis is one of only eight cities who managed to grow in population and maintain or decrease homelessness.

 Shalom House Auxiliary

Founded in 1968 Shalom House, originally called United Methodist Metro Ministry and later Metro Homeless Center & Family Services, began as an urban ministry of The United Methodist Church.

St. Mark's has been a part of the Auxiliary since the time when it was called Metro Ministry and continues to be a part of the Shalom House Auxiliary today with Sherrill Reeb as our liaison representative.

The Shalom House Auxiliary, started in 1981, is a group of individuals who are dedicated to supporting Shalom House through time, talent, funds, and prayers.  Each auxiliary member serves as a liaison to his or her church or faith-based organization and helps encourage those within these groups to get involved in life-changing, risk-taking mission at Shalom House.

Our liaison, Sherrill Reeb goes to monthly Auxiliary meetings to find out what is happening at Shalom House and then brings this information back to St. Mark's. Sherrill also helps to promote the Auxiliary's fund raising activities and special sponsored events such as Theatre events or the Fall Fling event.

How can you help Shalom House?

The Shalom House Auxiliary welcomes anyone who feels this is a place where they can serve.  Auxiliary meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month (September - June) at 10:00 a.m. at Shalom House.

Fund Raising Dish Cloths
