Fashions For Food

Used Clothing Sale

Held on the Second Thursday of each Month

8:30-11:00 AM

You can't beat 50 cents for a shirt or pants!

Church FFF sale 2 Aug 2013

That's the standard price for most of the used clothing at the monthly Fashions For Food sale.  You might also see ties for 10 cents and coats for $2.00 but all the shopping is economical and fun and most of all your shopping is helping others.

The proceeds from the monthly sale go to buy food for the hungry through four area ministries. They are TEAM (The Emergency Assistance Ministry), Kingdom House, PAKT Community Resource Center, and Shalom House.

There are three ways that you can be a part of this ministry. They are:

     1.  Donate

Church FFF sale 3 Aug 2013

  • You can drop off your gently used clothing, shoes, purses, and small miscellaneous items such as toys, books, and household items anytime that the church is open. The first time you come just ask the church office or someone in the building where you should put the items. We cannot accept computer monitors or TVs or large furniture.

      2.  Volunteer

  • It takes many hands to sort incoming items, set-up for the sale and to help out the day of the sale. Currently there are 30 volunteers who help out in a variety of ways, but they can always use more help. Some volunteers are church members and some are people from the Florissant community who want to help out with this worthwhile outreach program.
  • They sort items most Wednesdays from 8am until done. What is sorting? It is going through all the donated items from that week and sorting them into categories to make setting up for the sale easier.
  •  Set-up for the sale happens the Wednesday before the day of the sale from 8am until done. To set-up for the sale, all the boxes of donated sorted items are unboxed and put on tables ready for shoppers to look over.
  • The day of the sale volunteers are there to assist customers, do some more sorting, and to clean-up after the sale.

     3.  SHOP, SHOP, SHOP!!!

Church FFF set up aug 2013

  • Come to the monthly sale and find lots of great bargains and wonderful items to expand your wardrobe all at very reasonable prices. Have even more fun shopping knowing that all of your shopping is helping others. A win win for everyone!

The monthly sale is a win win for everyone. People who have items that they no longer need can donate their items knowing that it is going to help hungry people. The volunteers who work at the sale know that they are helping to provide food for others. Those who come to shop can find gently used clothing at a reasonable price and leave with their purchases knowing they are helping others. Then the four food pantries receive the funds to help them with their ministry to feed those hungry.

Fashions For Food started in January 1988 when the church was taking lots of donated clothing to area ministries, as were other churches, and yet there was always a shortage of food at these same ministries. A dedicated group of volunteers saw the greater need for food than for clothes, so they decided to sell clothes at the church - to people in our neighborhood - and donate the money. The number of shoppers increased each month and today, 25 years later, it is still going strong selling gently used clothing and other items each month. Over the past 25 years this ministry has raised over $200,000 for area food pantries....that's a lot of clothes purchased for 50 cents apiece!
