United Methodist Women

United Methodist Women is a national organization of approximately one million members whose purpose is to foster spiritual growth, develop leaders, and advocate for justice. Each year members participate in programs and projects related to women, children, and youth in the United States and in more than 100 countries around the world.

Our local unit of the United Methodist Women (UMW) has been a strong part of St. Mark’s since 1957.

Our current UMW has a Mission Team that works on administrative tasks, mission, and fund raising projects. We also have 4 small fellowship groups called “circles” where our members spend time together getting to know each other and doing projects and programs together. Then we also have General Meetings 3 times a year where all our “circles” come together for meals, programs and business of the unit.

There are opportunities throughout the year for spiritual growth (Reading Program, Annual Retreat, UMW Sunday), mission education, membership nurture (Secret Sisters), and social action. We host two fund raisers each year to help fund mission activities. There are also activities through the District UMW that you can attend.

With the UMW purpose as our guide, our unit helps each of us as women grow in our knowledge of God, in our supportive fellowship and in our concepts of mission.

The UMW Purpose is:The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.”

Every woman in our congregation is invited to join.
